In Michoacán this style of cookware is called a "sopera" or a "cazuela". In the US & Canada that would translate loosely to a casserole pot or a stew pot. These are completely food safe and do best on open flames (gas stoves or campground cooking over an open fire).
This dish is hand-painted and twice-fired in small batches through our partners' kilns. This flower pattern is a version of the Capuliñado style for which the artisans of the small Michoacán town are renowned.
