Molcajetes carved from volcanic basalt rock have been fundamental elements of traditional Mexican cooking for centuries, where they are used for tasks such as grinding whole spices or preparing fresh guacamole.
Our artisan partners in Michoacán have created a modern, beautiful ceramic version of the molcajete that will bring an amazing pop of color to your home.
These pieces are hand-painted and twice-fired in small batches through our partners' kilns. The name of the painting style is "Capuliñado", after the town in Michoacán where they are sourced. "Arco Iris" is Spanish for rainbow, and the rainbow detailing on these is spectacularly vivid. Each row of color is painted individually, by hand. Only skilled, patient, and disciplined artisans can consistently produce this level of detailed, high quality work.
Great feature pieces for your home or amazing gifts for special friends. Use them when hosting for putting out chips, guacamole, & salsa. Or keep them out every day as candy dishes. These are beautiful pieces you won´t want to hide in a cabinet.
Each individual molcajete is paired with its own hand-painted ceramic spoon.
